La Dolce Vita–E.V.O.Oh my gah I’m in Italy (5)!

Ciaooo! Still here in Italia living La Dolce Vita! Haven’t been able to post much lately due to lots of traveling but rest assured that I have been photographing all my amazing meals along the way. Let’s see..the last time I posted I think was after I had been to Lucca? Since then I’ve been to Chianti, Montepulciano, Rome, Venice, Milan, Sorrento, Interlaken, Bologna, Capri, Prague, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Dublin, Positano annnddd Pompeii…whew, is that it?! It’s been an amazing few months and I can’t believe I have to go home in less than a month! I am NOT ready to leave Italy or Europe in general. It’s an amazing amazing place. I feel so lucky that I have been able to travel so much of Italy and Europe while I’ve been here and of course I have my parents to thank for that! And school…for being so relaxed and letting me slack off majorly this semester haha. Anyway, here are just a select FEW of the sweets I have eaten while in Italy. Both I …

Leftover Alert: Peppermint Bark Chunk Cookies

I’m just gonna second what Ariel said: sorrysorrysorry for not blogging. My bad. That’s really all there is to say about that–life just got in the way in the form of finals, goodbyes and packing. Yuck. You do not wanna know what our diet consisted of for that last week, no time for grocery shopping does not suit us well. But, we made it! Did you? It’s the end of ’09, that’s probably good too, but can you believe it? I think every year goes by faster. I can’t believe that this semester ended, I won’t be returning to New York, we already had Christmas, tomorrow is New Year’s Eve and I’m going to Italy in 2 weeks! Errrrrrrrrr yikes–fun, but yikes. Some parts of me, the parts that don’t crave fresh pasta, caprese salad and wine, wish it wasn’t time yet! ¬†Oh yeah, and I hope Santa was good to y’all, I got this beautiful beautiful stand mixer I have been cherishing for like mmm a year. Loveeee it. But before I can even …

Chocolate [not] Cinnamon Bundt Cake

So I set out to make Bon Appetit’s Chocolate Cinnamon Bundt Cake that I’ve seen floating around. Buuuttttt I forgot to put in the cinnamon so I got Chocolate Bundt Cake instead. That sounds really boring but the cake was AMAZING, even sans the cinnamon (oops). I’ve decided that Bundt cakes and me don’t really get along…last week I made a Nutella Swirl Poundcake (or I tried too) but I forgot to swirl the nutella in with the batter so I just got alternating layers of pure nutella and layers of poundcake. I feel as though this chocolate bundt cake and the nutella (not) swirl poundcake would have really benefitted from me following the recipes, but they were both still rockin even with my mess ups. This chocolate bundt cake is uber decadent and delicious. You will probably only be able to eat one slice but you’ll be wishing you could eat the whole thing–actually that’s probably just me. This is the type of thing you need to eat with a large glass of milk, …

Cookie Cake

I have been a long time fan of the Cookie Cake. There’s just something about the concentrated cookie flavor in the shape of a cake slice that is just so appealing. I have tried many times–unsuccessfully–to re-create this cookie cake flavor on my own. Attempts including rolling out dough into a circle on a cookie sheet–failed, doesn’t cook evenly. I have also tried using a recipe for chocolate chip cake–failed, it’s actually just cake with choc. chips in it, not cookie like at all. Well I have dominated the Cookie Cake thanks to Ariel and her ingenious idea: to use a pie dish! I’m not sure how it all got started but thank goodness it did. We were lazing around on Sunday when Ariel found a ballin’ recipe for Mac n’ Cheese (in her last post). In my hungover state from Halloween I promptly jumped on the bandwagon pleading with Ariel to go to the grocery store to get the ingredients and make it. Carbs, Pasta, Cheese, Cream, Salt–pleaseeeee. While she was there she picked …

4 Layer Cookie Bars & Launch Party Giveaways

This is a double whammy post: one part delicious baked good, one part charity/prizes/really that kid wasn’t in the balloon?/we’re really freakin’ excited for our launch party! Alright Four Layer Cookie Bars were fabulous, it’s four cookies in one so they are what you might expect: rich, sweet, and yummy. I made them for our tailgate breakfast when I went home to Nashville this weekend for the UGA vs Vandy game. My lovely friend Katie was nice enough to have us all over to eat and hang out before we headed down to the game. Ah, living the normal school life for a weekend, two things that NYU lacks: football and day drinking. Here’s the recipe, you should all make them because they are to die for good. Yes since they are four layers its quadroople the calories, but hey, the holidays are coming, might as well start now. OKAY on to the more important stuff. We recently launched our new website (like a week ago) and we love any excuse for a party. That’s …

Chocolate Chip Cookie Cupcakes

I have raved about Martha Stewart’s Cupcake Book and I will get up on my soapbox again: the book is amazing! Not only are the recipes fantastic but also the food photography is some of the best I have seen. I wish I had HALF the talent of the photographers that put together this book. Seriously, when I flip through the pages of the glossy cupcake recipe filled book I am half drooling over the food and half drooling over the photography chops. When I look back through the photographs I have taken over the course of this blog I feel like I took much better pictures at the beginning. Weird considering I have learned more about composition and photo editing throughout the time we’ve had the blog, and we even got a photo light to help us out! Frustrating. I think I did better when I didn’t realize there was any skill to taking the photos, and I didn’t rely on editing to get better pictures. Grrrrr. How do y’all get good pictures? I …

Lookie at my Cookies: Chocolate Chip Cookies

While catching up on my Google Reader last week I found these cookies and knew I had to make them. They just looked too delicious to pass up and I’m always a softy for good cookies. They turned out pretty good, definitely not as good as Cooking on the Side’s look but decent. I still rank Jacques Torres’ cookies over these but for an every day choc chip cookie they’re fine. Crispy edges and a soft chewy inside with chocolate chunks galore. Perfect for dessert with a glass of milk! Now for a random rant: I saw this post on Eater today and to be frank, it really pissed me off. Seriously? Blogs were created so that anyone and everyone can instantly publish themselves, that’s just how it is. So of course there’s an overload of food blogs, there’s an overload of blogs in GENERAL! But who cares? If you don’t like someone’s blog then don’t read it, seems simple enough to me. I guess it’s not that simple for everyone. In the article they …

Lookie at my Cookies: Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bars with Cinnamon Cream Cheese Frosting

First thing’s first: Ariel and I found out about Study Abroad for next semester! What? Yes! We’re leaving the lovely USofA to go immerse ourselves in other cultures through food, drink, and fun. Oh, and school I guess. So where will we be traveling? Ariel will be spending her spring in Tel Aviv in Israel and I will be spending mine in Florence! We are more than excited to travel around the world, we just wish that we could do it together. Though our distance and different locales will only provide more interesting things for us to share with you all here! Nosh & Tell will be up and chugging along as we travel through Europe and the Middle East respectively. Who knows how often we’ll get to blog, or what the heck we will blog about since we won’t have access to all of our lovely kitchenware that will be staying in NYC, but we will blog! And we will eat! Oh we will eat. Pasta. Wine. Yum. Anyway, that’s not happening till Spring, …

Lookie at my Cookies: Cookie Brownies

Here’s another pre-blog era baked good: Cookie Brownies. I’ve been meaning to post these for like months now, 6 months to be exact since we started this thing on March 27 of this year! The only thing that’d be better than these is if I had an intern…seriously. Anyone interested? These are one of my favorite things that I make and usually my taste testers favorite as well. I have been known to eat a sickening amount of these, even more so than other treats which is saying something. I have also been known to say “there is something in these! Something addicting! Opium! I don’t know what it is but something”. This is most likely my excuse for eating a pan full of these, but I stand by my claim. They’re the most addicting thing I bake. So dangerous. Guess what else? They’re incredibly EASY! That also makes them doubly dangerous because you can whip them up in an instant and have a cookie brownie FEAST. Just buy a roll of cookie dough, buy …

Lookie at my Cookies: Monster Cookies

A short and sweet post since it’s currently after 1 a.m. and I really need to catch some Z’s before tomorrow. Short and sweet kind of like Monster Cookies! These were some of the first cookies I ever made and to this day if you ask me what my favorite flavor cookie is I will quickly respond, “Monster Cookies, aughhh yummmm”. Really the only question left to ask is why the heck haven’t I blogged these yet? I like to classify a few of my treats as “pre-blog era” and for some reason these get left out of the shuffle for some reason. I think it’s because I’ve made these baked goods so many times that they are so familiar to me I don’t think of them as “blog worthy”. In fact they’re probably the most worthy of blogging because the fact that I make these recipes over and over again is just a tribute to their greatness! Monster Cookies are no exception. Leave it to Paula Deen to throw everything but the kitchen sink …
