Switzerland–E.V.O.Oh My Gah I’m in Italy! (7)

So I’m not really IN Italy anymore which really makes the title of this blog a lie…but what the hey I wish I was still there anyway so I’ll go with it. Double lie because this post isn’t even about Italy it’s about an entirely different country! Good ol’ Switzerland. Gotta love the cheese, and the cow paraphernalia everywhere, and the chocolate and the hot extreme sporty men. Good times had all around. My friend Liz and I went in the beginning of February so it was still pretty cold though now I’m sure it’s great summer sporting time there too. I almost didn’t go on the trip and I am SO glad that I did. We went to Interlaken–a tiny little town in Switzerland that a lot of student travel groups take trips to. It was amazing. Other than the night sledding and 4-wheeling illegally on Swiss highways, the food also happened to be a highlight of the trip. The one tip I got before going to Switzerland: eat Rösti. What is Rösti you ask? Oh only something …

Peanut Butter Crispy Bars

Back in September (feels like yesterday, really it’s December?!) I went to the famous Baked Bakery in Brooklyn. Uhhhh so good. [moment to remember the amazingness that is Baked]. I tried about 15 different delectable items and all of them were memorable but I think my favorite by far were the Peanut Butter Crispy Bars. I have said many a time that PB+choco happens to be my favorite combination. It’s just natural that the two things go together. Like Diet Coke and me, like Vodka and soda, like Don & Betty Draper (well that’s not a great example), like Juliette & Sawyer on LOST, like Ron & Hermoine and like cream and…well…everything.  Needless to say these PB Crispy Bars get the job done. The bars might seem intimidating, yes you may have to whip out the candy thermometer, but they’re rather easy once you get down to it. And there’s actually no baking involved. Just cooling in the fridge, which is almost worse. Patience is a virtue my friends. I have none, but luckily for …

Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip Cookies

They look boring, but looks can be deceiving. Especially in the case of these cookies. Turns out Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip Cookies are anything but boring. They were amazing. Ridiculously easy, and absolutely delicious. When I saw these on A Bird in the Kitchen I knew that they needed to be part of my cooking baking craze on Sunday night. I’m not sure I can sum it up better than SweetBird does: “Put away your bathroom scale. Break out the fat pants with the elastic waistband. These cookies are going to rock your world”. Rock your world they will. These cookies are not for the nibblers out there. They aren’t for the “Okayyy, but only just ONE” type. I’m going to put this out there: you won’t be able to eat just one bite, or just one cookie, prepare to make a meal out of them. They’re just too good for self control. I’ll go so far as to quote my favorite Brit brit in her new single “Three”: “Living in sin is the new thing”. …

Brownie Cookies

I have long suspected that I share some qualities with Cookie Monster but my suspicions have been confirmed once and for all. Last week I went on a pie frenzy and last night I went on a cookie extravaganza. Sometimes I really wonder how I can eat so many sweets but then I realize I don’t really care why, sometimes it’s nice to have a bottomless pit of a stomach for dessert (and other food). This is one quality I believe I share with the big blue guy. Some more: I also happen to get crumbs all over when I eat, it seems like I cannot eat without making a mess–cookie crumbs, ketchup stains, drink spilling–I do it all. I also use the phrases “me want cookie!” and “om-nom-nom-nom” often. Me and Cookie Monster’s final similarity: chocolate chip cookies are my favorite but I will eat any kind. First up in my cookie baking extravaganza: Brownie Cookies. I have seen these floating around on blogs the past few months and decided it was high time …

Fudge Pie

Pie mania overtook our kitchen last night. I’m saving the second pie to blog later but here’s one to drool over for now: Fudge Pie. Apparently it’s not too common in the North (considering Ariel had no clue what fudge pie was) but in the South it’s arguably the most common pie. Right alongside your pumpkin and pecan: fudge pie is a fantastic way to end any meal. Or in my case, it’s a great way to start any day, considering I frequently pick at my baked goods for breakfast. Eek. Thank goodness cold weather is coming so big sweaters are a-okay to wear again. One question I always get about making pies is whether I make my own crust or not. Short answer: no. Semi-longish answer: no, because to me, store bought crusts always taste better than the ones I make at home. Maybe that’s because I’m bad at making pie crusts? I don’t know, but it saves me time. Here’s the catch: you wanna be semi-homemade like Sandra Lee? You gotta pick the …

Chocolate [not] Cinnamon Bundt Cake

So I set out to make Bon Appetit’s Chocolate Cinnamon Bundt Cake that I’ve seen floating around. Buuuttttt I forgot to put in the cinnamon so I got Chocolate Bundt Cake instead. That sounds really boring but the cake was AMAZING, even sans the cinnamon (oops). I’ve decided that Bundt cakes and me don’t really get along…last week I made a Nutella Swirl Poundcake (or I tried too) but I forgot to swirl the nutella in with the batter so I just got alternating layers of pure nutella and layers of poundcake. I feel as though this chocolate bundt cake and the nutella (not) swirl poundcake would have really benefitted from me following the recipes, but they were both still rockin even with my mess ups. This chocolate bundt cake is uber decadent and delicious. You will probably only be able to eat one slice but you’ll be wishing you could eat the whole thing–actually that’s probably just me. This is the type of thing you need to eat with a large glass of milk, …

POM Wonderful Brownies

A few weeks ago the people at POM Wonderful asked if they could send us some bottles of POM juice to experiment with in recipes. Who are we to turn down free stuff? It’s a recession y’all! Rest assured we would never spend the time blogging about something that  we didn’t feel the need to share with our readers, but the POM recipe was, well, wonderful! First up, Double Chocolate Pom Brownies. I’ve been wanting to make brownies for while now and due to a time crunch yesterday I needed to make something quick and easy. Bars and brownies are the perfect quick baking fix because they don’t require shaping dough or frosting (normally). You just whip up the batter and pour it in a pan–for this reason, I am bar obsessed. I also love bars because I feel like you can throw as much chocolate, sugar, and candy in them and they’ll always turn out scrumdiddly-yum-cious. I am for sure on my way to getting diabetes. Regardless, the POM brownies were a perfect solution. …

Lookie at my Cookies: Cookie Brownies

Here’s another pre-blog era baked good: Cookie Brownies. I’ve been meaning to post these for like months now, 6 months to be exact since we started this thing on March 27 of this year! The only thing that’d be better than these is if I had an intern…seriously. Anyone interested? These are one of my favorite things that I make and usually my taste testers favorite as well. I have been known to eat a sickening amount of these, even more so than other treats which is saying something. I have also been known to say “there is something in these! Something addicting! Opium! I don’t know what it is but something”. This is most likely my excuse for eating a pan full of these, but I stand by my claim. They’re the most addicting thing I bake. So dangerous. Guess what else? They’re incredibly EASY! That also makes them doubly dangerous because you can whip them up in an instant and have a cookie brownie FEAST. Just buy a roll of cookie dough, buy …

Lookie at my Cookies: Reese’s Cake

HELLO! Sorry all, we had to take a hiatus from the blog for a bit due to our extremely hectic schedules over the past week. No worries, we are back and here to stay–we missed y’all! It’s too bad school has to come first sometimes, ah well, such is life.Since we were MIA, here’s a quick recap of our past week:1. We started our second kitchen fire–I say we, but really it was just me…as I was cooking for my sorority rush I decided to jump in the shower to make myself presentable. Got out and of course I see smoke billowing from the oven. I open the oven and my pigs in a blanket are ON FIRE–despair. The piggies got pretty soggy when I had to throw water on them to put out the fire but I managed to salvage some from a previous batch. Oh well.2. We ate a lot (duh) but more so than normal since our kitchen was churning out food for hundreds of people each night of rush. Yes, you …

Brownie Krispies & musings on life, food, and this little thing

First let me apologize for my absence this week, I have been taking a summer course (dread) and had my final on Wednesday. Woohoo! Done and done, though it did lead to some neglect in the kitchen and therefore the blog. Okay onto more important things. Disclaimer: I may get a bit gushy/long winded/over dramatic/flowery in this post, I apologize ahead of time. I had the pleasure of seeing the new film Julie & Julia on Wednesday night. I have to be honest, I don’t have the temperament for seeing movies. I am way too anxiety ridden to sit in a dark theatre for two hours because the only things that go through my mind are all of the things I should be doing instead of seeing a movie. My to do list constantly runs through my mind. That being said, I repeat that I had the pleasure of seeing J&J. It was heart-warming, funny, beautiful, entertaining, and thought provoking. Okay, so I’m a little biased considering the movie is about a woman who cooks …
